The Golden Week holiday period, which could be as long as 10 days for some people this year, began today with pleasant, slightly cloudy skies! Just like yesterday, the southern route of Usagidaira (pictured) was in good condition with ample snow cover. The Kids Park has been moved to a new location in front of the Riesen Quad off-ramp, and the area was been widened.

From 4/27 (Sat.) to 4/29 (Mon.) and again from 5/3 (Fri.) to 5/6 (Mon.), the gondola will start running 30 minutes earlier than usual, at 7:30 a.m. The three open areas of Usagidaira, Kurobishi, and Urakuro had a loose surface layer of granular snow right from the start of the day. Snow had also been moved and added to the top part of Usagidaira (pictured), so the snow was sufficiently thick and stretched to the width of 1 to 1.5 grooming machines.

The Golden Week Test Ride Event & Rider Session (*free, ID required), organized by GARAGE 902, was being held in front of the Usagidaira Terrace. A total of 33 boards from 5 brands (RIDE, K2, LIB TECH, SLASH, and Gnu) were available for test riding. In addition, 7 riders including Masaki Kitae (RIDE/GAREGE902) and Shimon Tanaka (K2) were scheduled to host a rider session from 10:00.

I spoke with a couple from Osaka (pictured), who told me, “We love your site! I bought a Hakuba Valley ticket and came out to the Hakuba area for skiing. It’s sad that the season is coming to an end. Today and tomorrow are probably the last two days of our season.” A lot of people today seemed to be doing laps on the Kurobishi Quad.
