Tsugaike REPORT

2024.04.2895cm / Sunny

This morning, I spoke with a father and son (pictured) from Toyama Prefecture, who told me, “We love your site! Whenever we come to Tsugaike, we are usually the first on the lift. It’s early morning, but it’s already warm enough to wear short sleeves. We’re going to ski until the last day of Golden Week!” On this day, 4/28 (Sun.), the temperature rose as high as what’s normal for early June to late July in many parts of Japan, and it was hot and sunny in Tsugaike straight from the morning.

The three open courses, Tsuga-no-mori, Gotemban and the area alongside the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair Lift, all had slushy granular snow surfaces. I didn’t see any exposed dirt or bushes on the groomed portiosn of any of the 3 runs, but there was a large expanse of bare ground between Tsuga-no-mori and Gotemba, so it was necessary to traverse from the last part of Tsuga-no-mori to enter Gotemba. I spoke briefly with a couple from Azumino (pictured), who said they were fans of Snownavi, and added, “We’re going to ski for about an hour, then head to the Nature Park to cook and eat some ramen, though it’s so warm out that cold noodles would probably be fine.”

Over at OAKLEY TGPARKS, located along the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pari, the landing areas of the various park elements were sprinkled with ammonium sulfate, which kept the granular snow moderately soft. The kicker (pictured) was quite popular, and there seemed to always be about 20 people lined up and waiting to drop in. Two people from Nagano City called out to me, saying, “We love Snownavi. It’s so hot today! This is the last day of the season for us.”

The mogul lane on the skiers’ left side of the upper portion of Tsuga-no-mori had to be entered from the middle of the run due to the lack of snow on the upper portion. Tsugaike Mountain Resort will remain open until 5/6 (Mon., holiday), but this will be the last edition of the resort report for this season. Thank you for taking the time to read our reports this season, and see you next season!
