This morning, before the start of business, members of the ski patrol were spraying ammonium sulfate (to harden the snow) on the Usagidaira Slope (pictured), and other staff were hard at work adding snow to the boarding areas of the Alpen Quad and Usagidaira Pair. All of this was because the snow melt is accelerating after a sustained period of unseasonably warm weather. There was no significant cooling overnight, and the morning temperature of 12℃ was the highest officially announced temperature this season.

I spoke with a father (pictured, right) from Kagawa Prefecture who waved to me from the lift along with his son. He told me, “I love your site! The day after tomorrow will be our last day of skiing for this season.” With it being the Golden Week holiday period, I was greeted by a lot of skiers, with many of them from far away areas like Hyogo, Osaka, and Aichi prefectures.

Both the groomed and ungroomed areas of Usagidaira and Kurobishi had slushy granular snow surfaces right from the start of the day. On the groomed area along the Kurobishi 2 Pair, my edges sunk deeply into the snow, but my skis still slid well. Since the mogul slope along the Alpen Quad was closed, many people were lapping the mogul lane along the Kurobishi 3 Pair (pictured).

On the southern route of Usagidaira Slope, the groomed area was the width of 1 to 1.5 grooming machines at the top, about half the total width of the slope in the middle (pictured), and 1 to 2 groomers wide at the end. The snow surface was slightly discolored from dirt in the groomed areas. In other news, Urakuro closed yesterday, 4/28 (Sun.).
