The unseasonably warm weather yesterday and the day before, along with last night’s rain, has brought about rapid snowmelt. As a result, the Yakebitaiyama Giant Slalom Course will close at the end of the day on 4/30 (Tue.). I spoke with a patrolman, who told me, “The Panorama Course (pictured) and the South Course (second and third photos) are still open! Come out and ski.”

Thanks to the return of cold weather this morning, the groomed Panorama Course had a well-packed, granular snow surface. I had a conversation with a man from Tokyo (pictured), who remarked, “Yesterday I skied at Ichinose Family. I’m enjoying the good conditions with the cold weather.” I also enjoyed some speedy turns on the nice, grippy snow.

The South Course (pictured) was groomed with a similarly firm granular snow base as the Panorama Course. Visitor turnout was low, probably because of last night’s rainy forecast, so I took advantage of the full width of the course to make wide sweeping turns. There were also mogul lanes on both sides of the South Course.

I caught up with a season pass holder from Saitama Prefecture, who told me they were a fan of Snownavi, and added, “I always read your Shiga Kogen reports. I like Yakebitaiyama and come here often to ski. Yesterday, I skied only in the early morning, and after that, I visited several hot springs, including Hoppo Onsen and Kumanoyu.” Beginning tomorrow, the No. 2 Gondola and No. 4 Romance Lift will be the only two lifts operating at Yakebitaiyama.
