Unfortunately, after the close of operation yesterday, the ski resort announced that they would regrettably be closing for the season at the conclusion of business on 5/1 (Wed.). It was a sudden end to a great season, but all good things must come to an end. The rain last night and the night before prevented the grooming machines from working on the slopes, and this morning, both Usagidaira and Kurobishi (pictured) were ungroomed.

I spoke to a member of the ski patrol (pictured) who had a message for all visitors, saying, “Thank you very much for coming to our resort this season, even despite some periods of little snow. We look forward to seeing you again next season.” Also, I’d like to personally thank everyone who again greeted me with smiles and kind words on this, the last day of the season.

Skiing at Happo ends today, but from tomorrow until 5/6 (Mon.), three lifts (the gondola, Alpen Quad, and Grat Quad) will remain in operation for mountaineering and sightseeing. In addition, the Happo Alpine Line (i.e., the three lifts mentioned above) will begin summer operations a month later, on 6/1 (Sat.). In roughly a month and a half, the landscape will be covered in greenery similar to the photo featured here. (*Photo taken on 6/17/2023.)

Hakuba Mountain Beach, located on the rooftop of the Usagidaira Terrace, will also be open from 5/3 (Fri.) to 5/6 (Mon.). The private tent sauna requires advanced reservation. (*The cost is JPY6,000, and includes a round-trip gondola ticket, towel rental, and one JPY500 drink ticket.) Thank you very much for reading this season’s slope reports, and see you next season!
