The month of November was packed with warm days, despite the hopes and expectations of another big snow season brought on by the current La Nina climate pattern. In fact, we woke up this morning to the first snowfall since 11/16 (Wed.), which covered almost the entire resort in a thin blanket of white. A sliver of blue sky was visible at the top of the mountain around 8:00 (pictured), but not long after the clouds rolled in once more, bringing with them more snow.

The run alongside the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair Lift is typically the first to open each season, and snow machines were busy pumping out artificial snow there (pictured). In total, 5 machines were being used, and the loud mechanical roar they emitted echoed throughout the area. The natural snow that had fallen was noticeably wet, and around 1 to 2cm deep on both the Tsuga-no-mori slope and the slope paralleling the Han-no-ki High Speed Pair Lift.

The area extending from the midpoint of the Han-no-ki slope down to the Kane-no-naru-oka slope had less than 1 cm of wet snow, which began to melt around 9:30 a.m., revealing more and more of the vegetation below as it did. The planned 12/1 (Thu.) opening of the ski Resort has been postponed, and will now depend on snow conditions going forward.

The Oya-no-hara slope (pictured), Champion slope, and Shirakaba slope each received less than 1cm of snow. Although the Oya-no-hara slope lies at the resort’s lowest point, it’s used as a golf driving range during the summer season, and the short-cut grass should make for a quick transition to a skiable slope.
