Happo-one REPORT

2022.11.1615cm / Partly Sunny

Since a similar amount of snow fell high on the mountain in the vicinity of the Riesen Grat on 11/5 (Sat.) and 10/24 (Mon.), an extended streak of warm days has persisted. However, late last night temperatures dropped sharply and snow began to fall once more, and by morning snow had covered almost all of the resort’s slopes, with the exception of the lower reaches of Nakiyama and Shirakaba. Around 10cm had accumulated in the area in front of the Cafeteria Kurobishi (pictured).

The snow covering the Sakka Slope and Skyline Course had a high moisture content, but the dry snow on the Kurobishi Slope had me feeling pretty excited. The forecast was for improving weather, and by around 8:00 the snow had almost completely stopped and there were periods of intermittent sunshine.

The all-white Usagidaira Slope seemed almost ready to ski, with around 15cm accumulated at the top (pictured) and 10cm towards the bottom. The ground temperature should continue to drop as we progress towards the end of November, helped along by cycles of accumulating and melting snow until the arrival of consistent snow and cold. There was another 15cm of new snow in around the Riesen Grat as well.

The Panorama Course (pictured), which was the first to open at Happo last season, was covered with between 5 and 8cm of wet snow. Incidentally, the first snow on the Sakka Slope last year came on 11/24, which means we are currently 8 days ahead of that pace.
