Tsugaike REPORT

2024.12.11127cm / Cloudy

We’ve mentioned that it’s possible to enjoy a 5km-long run at Tsugaike now, but keep getting asked about the conditions at the bottom, so let us fill you in point by point. The points we’ll cover are the steep section in the middle of the Han-no-ki slope, the gentle slope towards the end of Han-no-ki (pictured), and the Karamatsu Slope at the very bottom of the resort. Before answering, today I spoke with a local resident from Otari Village (pictured), who shared his thoughts: “I check Snownavi regularly. The Han-no-ki Slope is well-packed and very easy to ski on.”

So yes, in regards to the Han-no-ki Slope, there were no areas of exposed brush or patches of thin snow coverage, even on the steep mid-section or the gentle slope near the bottom. From the top all the way down to the gondola mid-station, the slope has been groomed flat, with a firm powder snow surface providing excellent conditions for smooth, high-speed runs! Being a weekday morning, many skiers could be seen enjoying uninterrupted runs down to the mid-station, followed by quick gondola rides back up for another go.

On the Karamatsu Slope, the snow was groomed, with a soft, slightly damp powder-like texture. While the tips of some tall grasses were visible through the surface, they didn’t affect the skiing experience. I had a chat with a father visiting from China (pictured), who shared, “We’re staying eight days for snowboarding. The kids are starting to get the hang of it, so we’re heading up on the gondola next!”

The owner of the steak restaurant NIKU-MASA (pictured) was the first to hit the slopes today. He cheerfully commented, “I’m looking forward to another great season! As I get older, I find myself waking up earlier—guess that’s how I ended up being first on the slopes!” NIKU-MASA is known for its delicious and healthy dishes, featuring locally sourced ingredients. Their lean steak cuts and juicy, coarsely ground hamburg steaks are not only packed with flavor but also free from additives!
