Today I spoke to a skier from Nagano’s Azumino City, who told me, “I always check Snownavi, and decide which ski resort to visit based on the slope reports. It would be great if you could share more about the crowd conditions.” (Noted!) Can you tell the amazing snow quality from the photo? As I stepped onto the groomed slope, it made a satisfying squeak underfoot, and my excitement was already building before even starting to ski.

On the moderately soft, groomed packed powder surface of the Wakaguri Central Slope, I was able to pick up speed and enjoy the ride. A staff member from the Hakuba Alps Hotel (pictured) told me, “I always read your reports. The weather and the slopes are perfect today. I’m going for a quick run this morning before working in the afternoon. The hotel is starting to get busy.”

The ski patroller I met first thing this morning commented, “Starting tomorrow, 12/21 (Sat.), the No. 6, No. 8, and No. 9 lifts will operate, allowing access to the Wakaguri Forest Course, Satomi Ridge Course, and Satomi Central Slope, and connect Norikura to Cortina! We plan to groom Satomi Central (pictured) tonight.” The Satomi Central Slope, which had been groomed, was covered with about 15 cm of fresh, soft snow that had fallen during the day yesterday.

I made the acquaintance of a family from Malaysia who shared, “There’s no snow in our home country, so this scenery is wonderful. The mountain view from the dining area and spa was also amazing. The Hakuba Valley is such a great place.” Additionally, a couple from the local village of Otari told me, “We always check your site. We’ve been skiing here almost every day since the opening, but today the conditions are the best of the season so far.”

*The official base depth measurement this morning was taken at the Wakaguri Central Slope, so there is more snow on the upper slopes.
*This season, from late December, it will be possible to ride the lifts and ski with pets!
*The Alps No. 3 and No. 10 lifts are scheduled to start operating on 12/24 (Tue.), and the Alps No. 5 lift will begin operation on 12/28 (Sat.).
