Goryu47 REPORT

2024.12.19210cm / Partly Cloudy

In the morning, blue skies spread across the area for the first time in a week, since 12/12 (Thu.). A skier from Aichi Prefecture (pictured) told me, “I always check your reports! On the way here, the temperature according to my car dropped to -12°C as I entered Hakuba. After seeing the weather forecast, I thought today was the perfect day, so I took a day off to come skiing.” Although it was sunny, the lower part of Route 1, which faces north and is in the valley between mountains, was in the shade and felt very cold due to radiative cooling.

The first people to ski down the well-packed, groomed powder snow of Route 5 this morning were Tomoyuki Yatsunami (pictured, left), a member of Japan’s national team for the FIS Speed Skiing World Championships, and a staff member from TEAM RESCUE WAX (pictured, right)! They told me, “We always read your updates, and today’s weather and slope conditions are absolutely perfect!”

The groomed, well-packed powder snow surface on the upper section of Route 1 (pictured), as well as on Routes 5 and 6, allowed me to make turns exactly as I wanted. In the morning, advanced skiers stood out as they skied down nonstop and quickly returned via Line-C for another run. On the groomed lower section of Route 1, with its hard-packed snow mixed with artificial snow, I took extra care to maintain edge control, especially on the skier’s left side near the snowmakers.

The lower section of Route 8 (pictured) was groomed, and also featured well-packed, easy-to-ski powder snow. Tomorrow, 12/20 (Fri.), the Iimori Slope will finally open, meaning Goryu & Hakuba47 will be “fully open” (with over 80% of runs accessible), and free coffee will be provided at Restaurant Chandol! Later in the morning, thick snow clouds moved in, and by around noon, it began snowing heavily even at the base.
