Hakuba Goryu & Hakuba47 have officially reached a base depth of 200cm ahead of opening more terrain and transitioning to “fully open” status on 12/20 (Fri.). At the base, the snow flurries that had been falling over night picked up in intensity this morning. The upper areas of the resort (pictured) were shrouded in thick fog, and snow was falling steadily with almost no wind to speak of.
[Route 8]
The well-packed powder snow surface on the groomed upper section of Route 1 (pictured) was covered with 10 to 15cm of fresh snow. Although the falling snow and fog made the surface slightly difficult to see at the beginning of the run, I was still able to enjoy smooth, satisfying turns. There was around 5 cm of new snow topping the moderately firm groomed powder snow surfaces of Routes 5 and 6, creating conditions that were easy and enjoyable to ski.
[Upper Portion of Route 1]
The groomed, well-packed powder sections of Route 8 and Route 7 were covered with 3 to 5 cm of fresh snow. The lower section of Route 1 (pictured) had a firm groomed surface composed of natural snow mixed with artificial snow, topped with about 5cm of slightly moist fresh snow, and areas where tracks had already been laid had a slightly bumpy feel.
[Lower Portion of Route 1]
During my coverage, the snowfall showed no signs of letting up. Meanwhile, at Hakuba47, five restaurants are currently open: ALICE (limited menu, orders from 10:00 a.m.), CAROL (limited menu, orders from 10:00 a.m.), CAFE47 (limited menu, orders from 10:00 a.m.), the Beer Bar (limited menu, orders from 11:00 a.m.), and Cow Cafe (from 9:00 a.m.).
