REPORT

The third heavy snowfall of the season has arrived! “I’ve been waiting since 6:30. There’s no way I’m not heading to the ungroomed Route 3!” said a snowboarder from Ishikawa Prefecture, who was the first to board the Line-8 Gondola, where a long line had already formed before operations began. I, myself, headed to my favorite course, Route 2 (pictured).

Route 2 had 40 to 50cm of soft new snow, and was a deep powder paradise with no hint of bottoming out! Those who skied it were heard saying things like, “This is insane!” and, “The snowfall is even more amazing than I expected,” as they left sprays of powder rising high behind them. On the groomed Route 8, the moderately packed powder snow surface was topped with about 5cm of light fresh snow, making both the upper and lower sections (pictured) incredibly easy to ski.

I had a conversatin with a father from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured), who told me, “We always read your reports! I’m a HAKUBA VALLEY season pass holder, and my kid is a season pass holder through the NSD Kids Program, but since it can’t be used at Goryu & Hakuba47, we also bought a season pass for here.” His child then said, “We’re heading to Route 3 now!”

Routes 5 (pictured), 6, and 7 also had excellent powder conditions. On the lower section of Route 1, which was left fully ungroomed, about 30cm of heavy powder had accumulated. The snow that had been falling began to weaken around 9:30 a.m., after I finished reporting.

*Tomorrow marks the end of the early-season skiing period, and from the day after, 12/16 (Mon.), the regular ticket prices will apply: JPY8,000 for adults and JPY6,000 for elementary school students. (*Advance Discount Lift Tickets are still cheaper, though!)
*This Sunday, 12/15, is “Ski Kids Day,” and lift tickets for elementary school students will be free!
