Today I spoke to a group of four people from Kanagawa (pictured), who told me, “We always check your updates! We left at 3 a.m. and it took a while to arrive. It’s our second time to snowboard this season.” Incidentally, the Akakura Kanko Ski Resort, which is experiencing its first winter since the gondola was updated, opened at 8:30 a.m. today.
[Hotel Beginner]
After the significant snowfall last night, the base depth quickly increased to 110cm. In addition to the planned Hotel B, Hotel Main Slope, and Hotel Beginner courses, the upper portion of the Joshi Kokutai Course was also opened, making a total of four courses available for skiing. All courses had moderately firm groomed surfaces covered with 6 to 15cm of fresh snow, that were smooth and easy-to-ski.
[Hotel B Course]
There was a solid snowpack all the way down to the bottom of the Hotel Beginner Course, which made me want to keep doing laps via the Myoko Kogen Sky Cable (2,607m). When I ventured into the un-groomed area next to the Hotel Main Slope (pictured), I was able to enjoy the sensation of floating in the over 40cm of fluffy, fresh powder.
[Hotel Main Slope]
Going back to the start of the morning, this was the view of the Hotel Main Slope (pictured) before the resort opened. The soft morning sun cast a pale pink hue over the area. After that, snow began to fall again around 8:30 a.m., continued to fall in varying intensities, and was still coming down as of 12:30 p.m.
