This first clear sky and sea of clouds of the season were visible today! Passengers on the Alps 1st Pair (pictured) were heard saying, “The sea of clouds is amazing!” and “We’re in a world above the clouds!” At Hakuba Goryu & Hakuba47, the Panorama Course and the upper part of Route 8 (along Line-E) remain the two courses open for skiing.

The Panorama Course had a firm groomed surface, pressed from the snow that softened during the day yesterday, that provided excellent edge grip and perfect conditions for carving turns. A man from Kanagawa, who rode the Alps 1st Pair with me, said, “I always read your reports! This is my first day of the season. I’ll be careful to avoid injury so my HAKUBA VALLEY season pass doesn’t go to waste.”

I observed that the still-closed Grand Prix Course had been groomed to the width of three grooming machines on the skiers’ right side. Additionally, about half of the course width on the upper part of Route 1 had also been groomed. According to the staff, “The snow at the lift station and the unloading area of the Grand Prix Course is still insufficient. We need one more snowfall. If it opens, it will likely be this weekend.”

Until 12/20 (Fri.), ALPS360 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and Escal Plaza (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) are the two restaurants open. It’s important to note that the ticket center, rental shop, lockers, and changing rooms at Escal Plaza open at 8 a.m., not earlier. Since the Goryu Telecabin starts at 8:15 a.m., if you’re not organized, you can lose a lot of time, especially on weekends. By the way, if you purchase an Advance Discount Lift Ticket (IC card), you can go straight to the Goryu Telecabin without stopping at the ticket center!
