Goryu47 REPORT

2024.11.30100cm / Snow Clouds

The 2024-25 winter season at Hakuba Goryu & Hakuba47 began on 11/30 (Sat.)! As I approached the crowd waiting for the 10 a.m. start of the Hakuba Goryu Telecabin, many people responded to me, and I received numerous greetings like “We always read your reports!” Due to the heavy snowfall from the night before last until this morning, the Toomi Slope base area, where I was shooting, was completely blanketed in white as you can see.

Again this season, the Panorama Course (pictured, 850m long, max. 18°, avg. 15°, 130m wide), which is now open, is relying on 100% natural snow. The wide, moderately soft groomed runs felt incredibly smooth and enjoyable. A skier who told me they love Snownavi also mentioned, “As expected, natural snow feels great to ski on!”

Though I hadn’t noticed any wind at the base, a strong north wind was blowing at Alps-Daira, and the drifting fog and sideways snow reduced visibility, though at times, the fog cleared, and sunlight broke through. The wind picked up further, and around 10:20 a.m., the Alps 1st Pair lift (616m) ceased operation (it later resumed around 12:50 p.m.). As more people started hiking up the course, a patrol staff member said, “Normally, we’d stop them, but we’ll let it slide a bit today.”

The skier’s right side on the middle section of the Panorama Course (pictured) was ungroomed. Despite the heavy snow, I was able to glide smoothly by making shallow turns and gaining speed, which gave me a nice floating sensation. A snowboarder, who was stuck just outside the frame, commented, “It’s really deep, the snow is up to my chest!” At ALPS360, there will be a special event with free handouts of Hakuba Goryu original curry today from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (with free seconds)!
