The bottom of Ninja is located at 1,380 meters of elevation, and due to its bowl-shaped terrain, the resort is less affected by the wind, allowing snow to accumulate easily and remain intact. With that said, the highly anticipated opening of Ninja Snow Highland has officially arrived! According to the official website, the groomed slopes available for skiing are Blackbeat (pictured), Gomarugo, Drago, and Ukai Shinobu. Additionally, the groomed Shine Course (groomed to the width of a single groomer), and the bush-covered, non-groomed Alekoko and Sasuke are also open for skiing at your own risk.

Blackbeat had a firm, groomed wet snow surface containing a mix of natural and artificial snow on the skier’s right side around the middle section, but the rest of the slope was groomed with well-pressed powder snow. Two guests from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured) shared with me, “We always check your updates. The groomed runs are beautifully maintained and easy to board, so we bought a season pass this year. Conditions are good today.”

I got off the operating NINJA lift and skied from the gentle slope of Gomarugo to Drago (pictured). Drago, which doesn’t have snowmaking machines, was groomed with moderately firm powder snow. (*There were some bushes, but they should be gone after the winter weather system coming in tonight). On the non-groomed section that covered half of Drago, I enjoyed the feeling of floating while breaking through some slight crust.

A season pass holder from Gunma Prefecture, who was riding a snowboard without edges (pictured), shared with me, “I really like the snow quality at Ninja. The non-groomed areas were also great!” Additionally, a snowboarder from Ueda City chimed in, “I always read your reports. Today is my first time out this season, and the snow is fantastic—it’s the perfect way to start the season!”
