If you were lucky enough to spend this Christmas at Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field, it was the perfect White Christmas with excellent snow quality and stunning views! I interviewed a couple from Shiga Prefecture (pictured), who shared, “We follow your updates regularly. This is our second trip to the HAKUBA VALLEY this season and our first time at Iwatake. The weather and snow conditions are amazing today!” It was a calm morning, with no wind and only a mild chill in the air.

The South Slope (pictured), with its wide expanse of groomed corduroy, had perfect powder snow that made a satisfying squeaky sound underfoot. It was ideal conditions for making laps via the 5-sen South Quad (725m)! The groomed East Slope, which was a hidden gem early in the morning, featured a slightly softer powder snow surface compared to the South Slope.

The VIEW C and VIEW D slopes were neatly groomed from top to bottom, and featured moderately soft pressed powder at the start (pictured), transitioning to firmer, well-set powder snow toward the middle and end. Venturing into the ungroomed areas along the sides of the course, the snow was still of a light quality thanks to the continued low temperatures.

HAKUBA MOUNTAIN HARBOR (pictured) was bustling, particularly with international visitors. A pair of tourists from Thailand (pictured) shared, “This is our first time seeing snow. The scenery and snow are both amazing – it’s just perfect!” Despite it being a weekday, the gondola base station area was very lively around 10:00 a.m., likely due to the start of the winter holiday season.
