The Ikenotaira Onsen Alpen Blick Ski Resort, which opened on 12/14 (Sat.), became the first resort in the Myoko area to reach “fully open” status (80% or more terrain accessible) on 12/20 (Fri.)! The Kayaba Slope (pictured), with its gentle slopes that symbolize the calm, majestic form of Mount Myoko (2,454m), features a wide, single run with a maximum width of 450m. The slope has a maximum angle of 18 degrees and an average of 8 degrees.

Christmas brought perfect skiing conditions with blue skies and thin clouds overhead. The Yamabato Course (pictured, 500m, max. 23 degrees, avg. 12 degrees), located along the Shirakaba Capsule Pair Lift, also offered a wide, smooth run with a moderately firm powder snow surface that made for easy, enjoyable skiing, similar to the Kayaba Slope. Taking the Ikenotaira Quad Lift to the top of the resort, the groomed snow felt soft and even more pleasant, and my spirits were raised even higher.

I ran into the ownewr of RIDE SURF+SPORT in Tokyo (pictured), who told me he was a fan of Snownavi, and added, “I run a surf and snowboard shop in Hachioji. I love Ikenotaira, and my wife and I always come here when we ski together. Today, after skiing a few runs, I’ll put on my backcountry gear and head up to the higher areas.” The Lake View Course (900m, max. 24 degrees, avg. 20 degrees) lived up to its name, offering stunning views of Lake Nojiri and beyond.

A man from Toyama Prefecture whom I met in front of the Kayaba Slope Station exclaimed, “I finally got to meet someone from Snownavi! I always read your truly were ideal for powder skiing all the way down to the lowest part of the resort, with even the Karamatsu Course (pictured, 900m, max. 21 degrees, avg. 19 degrees) offering fantastic snow.
