The weather shifted to a typical winter pressure pattern with closely packed isobars, causing a sharp drop in temperature and heavy snowfall. While waiting for the No. 9 Pair Lift, I was greeted by a group (pictured) heading up to the Sky View Slope, who said, “We always check your reports! There aren’t as many people in line today as we expected—lucky us!!” The morning brought steady, dense, dry snow and a strong northerly wind.

A patroller who had just finished a course check shared with me, “There’s over 30 cm of fresh snow. The slope is plenty wide, so please keep a safe distance from others.” After disembarking from the No. 10 Pair lift and entering the pristine Sky View Slope (pictured), I was in fact greeted by 30 to 40 cm of fluffy new snow.

The incredible floating sensation all the way down (pictured) with no bottoming out had my excitement levels soaring! Amidst shouts of “Amazing!” and “Whoooooo!” from those around me, I couldn’t resist the thrill and headed back to the No. 10 Pair for another run. The snowfall, which had eased around 8:40 a.m., picked up again around 9 a.m.

Despite the vast 250-meter-wide steep slope, the crowd this morning seemd surprisingly light, which made for multiple exhilarating powder runs. The Satomi Ridge and Satomi Wakaguri Access Line offered groomed, well-packed powder snow with a fresh 10 to 15 cm layer on top, perfect for carving. Meanwhile, Wakaguri Central and Wakaguri Forest featured moderately firm powder bases with about 5 cm of new snow, and were lively with families and beginners enjoying the slopes.
