Cortina REPORT

2024.12.29300cm / Snowy

“I always read your reports! I’m here with my father to enjoy skiing at our favorite Cortina. Looking forward to the powder!” was the comment from a Woody Rental staff member (pictured, second from right). “Be sure to rent your gear at Woody Rental!” they added. Additionally, Mr. Tsukiji, a representative of Island Joy (pictured, third from right), shared, “On 2/8 (Sat.) and 2/9 (Sun.), we’ll be hosting a Monoski and Short Fat Ski Demo Event. Please come join us! Monoskiing is so much fun!”

Sorry for kicking off the report with a double dose of commercials, so to make up for it, let me share some exciting news—this year-end winter system has brought enough snowfall to push the official base depth to 300cm. I had a chat with a telemark skier who shared, “Man, the first run on the Ipponmatsu Course this morning felt amazing!” The Ipponmatsu Course featured a moderately firm, groomed powder snow base topped with about 10 cm of fresh, dry snow, offering excellent conditions. Similarly, the softer snow on the Ikenota Slope (pictured) provided a smooth and enjoyable ride.

At the No. 4 Pair lift station, I asked Sato-san from Monster Cliff, “Where are you planning to ski today?” He confidently replied, “Real men stick to Itadaira!” (Note: Hieda 2 has been closed since 1/26 due to a crack.) Unable to resist, I detoured to the ungroomed Hieda 1 before heading to Itadaira. The slope, with its soft contours and around 20cm of fluffy fresh snow, made for an exhilarating and enjoyable ride.

The trees at the top of the ski resort vividly reflect the recent heavy snowfall. The Mt. Hieda Forest Course (pictured), featuring a groomed base of moderately compacted powder topped with about 10cm of light fresh snow, offered smooth and enjoyable skiing. Later, I met a skier from Shizuoka Prefecture on the Rabbit Course who shared, “I always check your updates! This season has been all about powder, but I’m starting to crave some groomed runs.”
