It was a crisp, refreshing morning with the bright blue sky contrasting beautifully against the white snow. I spoke with a couple from Tokyo, who told me, “We always read your reports. We’ve been chasing the best snow and staying in the car while hopping from resort to resort. Yesterday we skied here at AKAKAN, and the snow looks great again today, so we came back for another round!” Visitors turned out in number early, which is typical of the year-end holiday season.

The snow from yesterday stopped before dawn, and this morning there was about 10 cm of fresh powder. All slopes at Akakura Kanko Resort Ski Area are now open, and every one of the groomed areas had perfect powder snow conditions today! On the Hotel B Course (pictured), the well-groomed snow was soft, but not too soft, allowing for smooth, enjoyable turns with a gentle feel through the edges.

The Hotel Main Slope and Hotel Beginner Course, which are a continuation of the Hotel B Course, were also covered with soft, powdery groomed snow. The Hotel C, Joshi Kokutai, and Champion B & C courses had slightly firmer groomed powder, providing great conditions for picking up speed and enjoying smooth, comfortable runs.
