Locally-produced Hakuba specialties also include items that make use of the wisdom and know-how developed in this snow-covered alpine environment. A prime example are the DSP Gloves, handmade ski and snowboard gloves from Hakuba Sports. These gloves are crafted with great attention to detail by leather artisans and riders, and each pair is carefully made in a Hakuba workshop. They also offer fast and reliable repair services.

TEAM RESCUE WAX products were created by Katsuji Okiura and his production team, with extensive real-world testing to refine and improve the formula. This high-quality wax is the result of their efforts, made possible by the nearby ski resorts that operate over a long season with varying snow conditions. I can personally recommend these products, since I have been using them myself for quite some time.

Ski school lessons could also be considered one of Hakuba’s specialties. The Hakuba area has numerous resorts packed with skiers, and the number of students is naturally high, which means there are also many instructors on hand. In this competitive environment, instructors continually improve their skills and regularly place highly in competitions such as technical ski events. If you want to improve your skiing, I highly recommend taking lessons at one of Hakuba’s many ski schools! (Pictured is the prestigious Hakuba Happo-One Ski School.)

Additionally, the above-mentioned local specialty products are available through the Furusato Choice program. Through this entire nine-part Furusato Nozei series, we, ourselves, have been able to rediscover the charm of Hakuba, and we hope you have too. The air is clean, the water is pure, and the rice, vegetables, and fruit are delicious, not to mention the wild game meat and Hakuba Pork. Unspoiled nature abounds, and the scenery is breathtaking. Above all, the opportunities for skiing, snowboarding, hiking, and other activities are immense. I highly encourage you to think of Hakuba Village as your second home!
