A low-pressure system moving northeast over the Sea of Japan (details below) has once again brought abundant snow to the Hakuba area, similar to the heavy snowfall on 12/7 (Sat.). This morning, I followed the Highway (pictured) to Sky View route mentioned in the comment on the second photo from yesterday’s report. I set out to investigate and report on whether it would be a powder-filled adventure or if I might be too late.
[Highway]
I raced through the first half of the Highway Course, which had a moderately soft groomed powder base topped with 3 to 5cm of fresh snow. Entering the latter half of the course (pictured), I was greeted with 10 to 15cm of light, fresh snow resting on shallow, soft undulations. Afterward, I shifted over and arrived at the No. 9 Pair Lift (pictured) around 8:15 a.m., just in time, as a line had started to form. (I made it!)

Today’s highlight was definitely the Sky View Slope (pictured), which offered 35 to 45cm of fluffy new snow. The soft undulating base beneath provided exceptional buoyancy without bottoming out! Cheers of “Amazing!” and “This feels incredible!” echoed through the snow spray as more and more riders enjoyed the perfect conditions.
[Sky View]
The early morning was dimly lit with thick clouds and dense snowfall, but by the time I began skiing the Sky View Slope (pictured), it had brightened up. The groomed Hakunori Family, Wakaguri Central, Wakaguri Forest, and Satomi-Wakaguri Access Line slopes all featured moderately soft powder conditions. A big thank you to everyone, including groups from Kanagawa, Tokyo, and Hakuba Village, as well as a couple from Hyogo Prefecture, who greeted me saying they were fans of Snownavi.

*When a low-pressure system (characterized by counterclockwise winds in the Northern Hemisphere) moves northeast over the Sea of Japan, clouds flowing in from the west are rapidly cooled as they pass over the 3,000-meter peaks of the Northern Alps, resulting in heavy snowfall. This phenomenon showcases Hakuba’s distinctive winter conditions and snowfall patterns.
