Iwatake REPORT

2025.01.05195cm / Mostly Sunny

The final day of the “miraculous 9-day holiday period,” thanks to a lucky alignment of holidays and weekends on the calendar, brought calm and sunny weather. I spoke with a snowboarder from Tokyo (pictured), who shared, “I always follow your updates! I hold season passes for both Iwatake and HAKUBA S-CLASS. S-CLASS is truly fantastic! First tracks on a day like today are unbeatable.”

Thanks to the frigid temps brought by radiative cooling, the groomed South Slope, Sawa Course (pictured), and East Slope all offered moderately firm powder snow conditions. A skier from Shizuoka Prefecture (pictured) commented, “I always read your reports and use HAKUBA S-CLASS every year. I love it because it offers priority boarding on the gondola and South 5sen Lift on weekends and holidays, a lounge where I can relax and enjoy food and drinks, and complimentary access to the Iwatake no Yu onsen after skiing.”

The Sunny Valley Course featured perfecty pressed, groomed powder snow at the start, a firmly packed mix of artificial and natural snow around the midsection (pictured), and moderately firm “powder-like” wet snow towards the end. Visitors were quick to turn out, and by 9:30 a.m., the central parking lot was nearly full, with a 3 to 4-minute queue forming at the gondola base station.

VIEW D (pictured) featured a moderately soft, groomed powder base from the beginning to the middle sections, transitioning to firmly packed powder snow toward the end. The ungroomed areas alongside the course were also covered in soft powder with a gently undulating base. Later, a digger at the Iwatake Love Snow Park, located at the top of the South Slope, mentioned, “We work hard to keep the park in tip-top shape every day. Please come and enjoy it!”
