The first Sunday of the new year greeted us with calm, clear skies right from the morning. The first rider of the day on the Kumado No. 1 Quad (1,068m) was a snowboarder from Chiba Prefecture (pictured, far right), who shared, “I follow all of Snownavi’s updates! I also purchased my advance discount lift tickets through you. I came to Akakura Onsen very much looking forward to powder snow.”

The groomed Panorama Course (pictured), with its moderately packed powder snow surface, offered excellent and easy-to-ski conditions. Both the Utopia A and B courses, flowing to the right from the top of the Kumado No. 1 Quad, also featured superb powder conditions! All three courses had perfectly packed bases that provided satisfying edge grip and allowed my skis to glide smoothly and effortlessly.

The Downhill Chuo Course (pictured) and Slalom Course also had moderately firm powder, making them easy to ski. On a day like this, taking advantage of the long runs accessible via the Yodel No. 1 Triple (1,386m) can help even beginners improve quickly. Additionally, every Sunday, the Akakura Ski School offers a free ski lesson for elementary school students, which even includes a lift ticket! (Reservations are required, and participation is limited to 40 students per day.)

I spoke with a skier from Ueda City (pictured), who shared, “I love Snownavi! This is my first time skiing at Akakura Onsen Ski Resort, and it’s such a great, spacious place!” The wide Sekimi Slope (pictured) also offered a wonderfully groomed powder surface, making for a highly enjoyable run.
