The winter season at Myoko Suginohara Ski Resort kicked off on 12/13 (Fri.), making it the first resort in the Myoko area to open! The Suginohara Gondola began operating on day 1, followed by the Mitahara High-Speed Lift No. 2 on 12/19 (Thu.), and the Mitahara High-Speed Lift No. 3 on 12/20 (Fri.), with the resort fully accessible by late December. Today, I enjoyed the changes in slope gradient and the undulating terrain on the Shirakaba Course (pictured) while heading towards the Mitahara Zone.

I spoke with a snowboarder from Aichi Prefecture (pictured), who said, “I always check your page! It’s rare to see Snownavi here at Suginohara. The groomed slopes feel great.” The beginning of the Shirakaba Course (first photo) featured moderately firm, groomed wet snow. Higher up, when I arrived at the Shakunage Course, the groomed snow was pressed powder, which offered an excellent ride.

From the top of the ski resort to the Suginohara Pair Lift No. 1, by connecting the Shakunage Course to the Panorama Slope, you can enjoy an incredible 8.5 km long run. The elevation difference is also the largest in Japan, and is no joke! I enjoyed cruising through the varied, forest flanked terrain of Shakunage (pictured), the 200-meter-wide upper section of Panorama, and the forested lower part of Panorama as well.

The Dynamic (pictured) and Panorama courses, accessible via the Mitahara High-Speed Lift No. 2 (pictured, 1,774m), were groomed with a moderately firm wet snow surface that had the feel of powder. A snow park was also set up on the Panorama Course. I ran into a man from Mie Prefecture who commented, “The wind has become colder, and the clouds are looking ominous. But even if it starts snowing, the quad lift has a hood, so it’s comfortable.” Around 9 a.m., clouds from the west began to spread, and snow started to fall.
