Happo-one REPORT

2025.01.07250 cm / Snowy

With a low-pressure system passing to the south of Honshu yesterday afternoon through this morning, warmer temperatures at the base had me concerned as I headed to the upper slopes. Upon stepping off the gondola, I found fog drifting in and out, with light, slightly damp snow gently coming down. Later, while riding the Alpen Quad, a man from Matsumoto City shared, “I always follow your updates. I was worried when I saw it raining in Omachi on the way, but I’m glad it’s snowing up here.”

The Panorama Course (first photo) and the south-side route of Usagidaira (pictured) offered firm, groomed powder snow with a soft layer of 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow on top, making for a delightful ride. I was thrilled to see the powder snow holding up so well. By the way, at Usagidaira Terrace’s Oakley Terrace, the DJ event “HAPPO SUMMIT MUSIC” takes place every weekend through 3/2 (Sun.), starting at 12 p.m., with free entry.
[Usagidaira Slope]

The start of the Usagidaira and Kurobishi slopes (pictured) were shrouded in thick fog for much of the morning, and I heard comments like “I can’t see!” and “Too foggy!” echoing through the air. Along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), a soft layer of 3 to 5 cm of fresh snow topped the groomed powder base. The ungroomed areas along the Alpen Quad and Kurobishi 3 Pair had an even thicker layer of 10 to 15 cm of fresh snow, perfect for powder enthusiasts.
[Kurobishi Slope]

Descending below the clouds to the Skyline Course, I found 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow atop the groomed, slightly damp powder base. The Kitaone Traverse Cat Track, Sakka Slope, and Shirakaba Slope featured firmly-groomed, damp snow surfaces. On the steep slope of Kitaone (pictured), the small to medium-sized moguls were firm and covered with a 2 to 3 cm layer of light, slightly moist fresh snow, adding a bit of softness to the challenging terrain.
