Jiigatake REPORT

2025.01.09 190 cm / Snowy

Jigatake continues to evolve, especially with the introduction of the latest snowmaking machines in November 2023! This season, the bathrooms in the Echo House have undergone a major renovation, featuring a new interior design with a brown color scheme. Last season, a fully equipped powder room (pictured) was added, which includes three mirrors with lighting, a hairdryer, and a diaper-changing station for guests to use freely.

The strongest cold wave of the season arrived the day before yesterday, but there was a significant difference in the weather between the southern and central to northern areas of the HAKUBA VALLEY. I spoke with a man from Matsumoto (pictured), who told me, “I always read your reports! I came to ski on my day off. I like Jigatake because it has a park, and it’s not crowded, especially on weekdays.” Despite the lightly falling snow, visibility was good, and I could even see the sunlit town of Omachi in the distance.

Along the 3rd Pair Lift (669m), there are groomed intermediate slopes suitable even for advanced skiers, including Raicho (max 28°, avg 27°), Rabbit (max 25°, avg 20°), and Kamoshika (max 28°, avg 17°). These three courses, along with the expansive main Echo Slope, also had moderately firm, groomed powder snow, and I was able to enjoy smooth turns with ease.

I had a conversation with a family from Saitama Prefecture, who were taking a private lesson with the Kishi Masami Snowboard School, and they told me, “We’re staying at our family home in Omachi City and came to ski. Today, our 5-year-old son (pictured) is trying snowboarding for the first time.” He was taking a lesson on the lower part of the Kamoshika Course, using the snow escalator.
