2025.01.10385 cm / Snowy

The season’s strongest cold wave has brought relentless snowfall since the late morning of 1/7 (Tue.)! A snowboarder living in Hakuba Village commented, “I always read your updates. It’s especially cold this morning, but that meant the snow was so light that clearing it off the car and shoveling was a breeze.” The official base depth has steadily increased over the last few days, from 345 cm to 375 cm, and now to 385 cm, bringing us tantalizingly close to the dream milestone of 400 cm!

The intense cold has brought super-light snow, and with another impressive 40 to 50 cm of new accumulation, the ungroomed steep slopes of Route 2 were fully reset for a second morning. A snowboarder carving the first tracks (pictured) sent up a dramatic plume of powder as they sharply set their edge. Cheers and excited shouts soon echoed across the slope as more riders followed!

A skier who had just descended the Tree Riding Zone (TRZ, entrance visible slightly downhill in the background of the photo) shared, “The tree area was soft and fluffy—it felt amazing.” Routes 5 and 6 were groomed with a moderately firm powder snow surface topped by a light layer of 5 to 10 cm of fresh snow, and were also an absolute pleasure to ride!

Due to occasional strong winds, the operation of Line-E was delayed. However, the wind also cleared away the clouds at times, allowing the sun to peek through. The lower section of Route 8 (pictured) and Route 7 featured well-packed groomed powder snow with a light 1 to 3 cm layer of fresh snow, while the lower section of Route 1 had approximately 20 cm of fluffy fresh snow on top of a firmly packed powder base, making for excellent conditions.
