The vast groomed slopes, the stunning blue sky, and the overwhelming sense of openness are the essence of Sugadaira! On the first day of the long weekend, Sugadaira Snow Resort officially reported a base depth of 100cm. I spoke with a family from Ueda City (pictured), who shared, “We always follow your updates! We’ve had family photos taken here both last season and the season before. The snow quality this season is great, and with so much of it, it’s easy to ski on.”

This morning, the temperature dropped sharply to -10°C due to radiative cooling, but with no wind, the cold didn’t feel too harsh. The Oku Davos Snow Park, located at the highest point of Sugadaira, is operated by Route Inn Japan. (Did you know that Route Inn originated in Ueda City, Nagano?) On the early part of the Oku Davos First Advanced Course (pictured), the snow surface made that perfect powder squeak as it was compacted underfoot.

The first part of the Oku Davos First Advanced Course offered a moderately soft, groomed powder base, while the middle to latter parts of the course, along with the Oku Davos First Intermediate Course (pictured), featured a moderately firm powder snow surface. Not only the groomed areas, but also the ungroomed sections of the First Advanced Course retained a soft, powdery texture, making for smooth and enjoyable skiing.

It was still quiet as the lifts started running at 8:30 a.m., but by around 9 a.m., more visitors, primarily families, began to arrive. By 9:30, the start of group ski lessons further added to the lively atmosphere. The Oku Davos Second Beginner Course (pictured), as well as the Omote Davos East and West courses, featured well-packed, easy-to-ski powder snow, providing smooth conditions for all.
