The half-pipe at Nozawa (pictured) opened on 1/12 (Sun.), and I spoke to a few visitors practicing on it, who shared, “Whether it’s because of the excellent snow quality or the skill of those who built it, the half-pipe at Nozawa Onsen is very well-crafted and easy to ride.” Even after the long weekend, both the half-pipe and the Uenotaira Snow Park were well-maintained and in great condition.

The snow flurries near the summit stopped around 9 a.m., and blue skies began to appear. The Yamabiko C (pictured) and Yamabiko D courses had well-packed, easy-to-ride groomed powder snow. On Yamabiko C, it was fun to carve through the irregular bumpy terrain at the edges of the course. The large moguls on Yamabiko B looked challenging, and I decided to give them a pass.

A skier from Nagano’s Azumino City approached me saying, “I always read your reports! I usually ski at Tsugaike, but today, I’m at Nozawa Onsen. I can’t believe I ran into someone from Snownavi!” Both the Uenotaira Slope and Paradise Slope had moderately firm, easy-to-ski groomed powder snow surfaces.

A skier from Nagano Prefecture, who I met on the Yamabiko Quad, shared, “The cold wave has finally passed. With this weather, the groomed runs feel amazing.” The best slope of the day was Yamabiko A (pictured), with its well-packed groomed powder snow. On 1/19 (Sun.), a Kids Ski Day will be held, offering free lift rides for children of middle school age and younger.
