Following the heavy snowfall brought by this season’s third major cold wave from 1/7 (Tue.) to 1/10 (Fri.), the official base depth at Happo has surged to mid-3-meter levels. Furthermore, with the opening of HAPPO PARKS on the first day of the three-day weekend, all slopes, facilities, and services at the expansive Hakuba Happo-One Ski Resort are now fully operational. This morning, light, dry snow was falling steadily, carried by a brisk wind.

The upper to mid sections of the Riesen Course featured 1 to 2 cm of light new snow on top of a well-packed, groomed powder snow base, while the lower section featured a firm mix of groomed artificial and natural snow. Conditions were smooth and fast alongside the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), where the firm, groomed powder surface was topped with up to 2 cm of fresh snow. The area along the Kurobishi 3 Pair was marked with moderately firm tracks and dusted with approximately 5 cm of light new snow, making for an enjoyable ride.

The south route of Usagidaira and the Skyline Course (pictured) were in excellent shape with both featuring firm grooming and 2 to 3 cm of light new snow! The Kitaone Traverse Cat Track had a firm, groomed wet snow surface that felt like powder, while the steep slopes of Kitaone were marked with hard, medium-sized moguls.

The Sakka and Shirakaba Slopes were bathed in gentle sunlight, and had moderately firm wet snow bases allowing for easy skiing. This weekend, on 1/18 (Sat.) and 1/19 (Sun.), the Usagidaira Terrace will host the FACTION Ski & United Shapes Snowboard Test Ride event (starting at 9 a.m.). Additionally, 1/19 (Sun.) is a Kids Ski Day, where lift tickets for elementary school students will be free all day.
