Upon exiting the gondola summit station this morning, I found large flakes of snow falling along with a westerly wind. The Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) had about 1 to 2 cm of light new snow on top of a powder-like, groomed wet snow base, which allowed my edges to grip well, and my skis to glide smoothly. It was the perfect place for the first run of the day.

I expected the slopes to be relatively uncrowded on this weekday in January, but visitors arrived early at the main Han-no-ki Slope. Perhaps as a result, the Sawa and One courses at TG PARKS opened early. Meanwhile, the Maruyama Slope had the same powder-like wet snow base, but with fewer people, leaving plenty of pristine corduroy still available.

Currently, the TG PARKS elements include two boxes, a 6m rail, a PVC rail, a 7m down rail (pictured), two thick round rails, a flat-down corner rail, a 5m kicker, two 6m kickers, three 3m kickers, two waves, a 7m kickers, two 12m kickers, and a knoll. Everything was built well and maintained, and that along with the moderately firm wet snow base meant that conditions were perfect for confident park runs.

I spoke with a skier from Azumino City (pictured), who said, “I always use Snownavi! I purchase a Tsugaike season pass every year and mainly ski on weekdays. After retirement, skiing in winter has become my biggest source of joy.” The groomed, well-packed powdery wet snow on the Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) provided excellent and easy-to-ski conditions.
