After the heavy snowfall over the past two nights settled down, we were treated to calm weather with occasional sunshine this morning. The Shirakaba Quad (1,201m) began operating a little later than scheduled, at 8:40 a.m., due to extended snow clearing efforts, and I headed to the Shirakaba Slope (pictured) when it opened. The more than 100-meter-wide, moderately soft, groomed powder snow surface offered plenty of space to carve smooth and effortless lines.

“I always follow your updates! We’re staying at Espoir Misawa since yesterday until 1/18 (Sat.). The slopes are really easy to ski on. My eldest son (pictured, second from left) is practicing skiing without assistance,” said a father from Kanagawa Prefecture. The super gentle Oya-no-hara Slope (pictured) was covered with moderately soft, groomed powder snow that provided ideal conditions for beginners to practice.

At the end of the Uma-no-se Slope (pictured), there was 30 to 40 cm of fluffy new snow. I was greeted by a group of three visitors from Matsumoto (one of whom is pictured), who called out, “We always follow your updates! The powder is amazing!” Due to the drop in temperature, all the slopes, whether groomed or ungroomed, were covered in perfect powder snow from top to bottom!

At the top of the ski resort, the dry snowflakes sparkled in the morning sun. The Han-no-ki Slope, which has been open since 11/30 (Sat.), was in perfect condition. I enjoyed a long 3 km run, experiencing slight changes in snow quality and slope steepness: a soft start, a moderately firm middle section, and a soft finish.
