With the relatively mild temperatures this morning, I drove along wet roads and parked near the Omote Taro Slope before boarding the Gran Lift and heading to Schi Heil from the summit of Mt. Taro. I had the Schi Heil Course to myself, and the 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow atop the groomed surface made for a perfect start to the day. In other news, the Stage 1 Lift (pictured) is scheduled to begin operating on 1/17 (Fri.).

The Hinode Access Route (pictured), leading to the Hinode Slope, as well as gentle slopes like the Ura Taro Usagi and Shirakane Beginner courses, featured groomed wet snow with a powder-like texture, offering excellent glide. Being a weekday, school trip groups were a prominent presence. Additionally, 1/19 (Sun.) is a Kids Ski Day in which elementary school students are able to ride the lifts free of charge all day.

The Ura Taro Family East and West courses featured moderately packed, groomed powder snow. While riding the Stage 3 Lift, which connects the two courses, I was captivated by advanced skiers carving deep tracks into the pristine groomed slopes. On 1/16 (Thu.), a permanent slalom practice area will open on the Ura Taro Kamoshika Course.

The Taro Slope (pictured) offered a firmer feel compared to Ura Taro Family East, making it a fast run. By the way, a free shuttle bus connects the expansive Sugadaira Kogen’s three areas—Taro, Davos, and Pine Beak—on weekends and holidays through 3/16 (Sun.).
