Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2025.01.17395 cm / Snowy

This morning, a skier from Tokyo (pictured) who was the first to hit the Highway Course, shared with me, “I always check Snownavi! At dawn, I went to clear the snow off my car at the lodge in the foothills and found way more light snow than expected. That’s when I thought, ‘This calls for a visit to Hakunori!’ and decided to come skiing.” With strong northerly winds blowing snow across the slopes, it felt much colder than the -4°C temperature.

The surroundings felt dim and subdued, with thick clouds, dense snowfall, fog, and wind-driven snow reducing visibility on the slopes. Both the Highway and Kamoshika courses were topped with 5 to 10 cm of light new snow on moderately packed, groomed powder surfaces. The Rabbit Course, Wakaguri Central Slope, and Wakaguri Forest Course offered moderately soft groomed powder conditions with the same amount of fresh snow on top.

I spoke with a mother from Osaka (pictured, right) who told me, “We always follow your updates! My child (pictured, left) will be competing in the Osaka Kids Mogul Competition starting tomorrow, so we’re heading to the reception area at the Satomi Central Slope. This will be their final competition as a sixth grader.” This morning, many other kids equipped with mogul skis were also spotted around the resort.

The cross course built along the No. 5 Pair on the Wakaguri Central Slope (pictured) features a small triple wave at the start (pictured), three banked turns in the middle, and a large triple wave at the end. Additionally, around 15 cm of light fresh snow had accumulated in the ungroomed areas of the Highway and Rabbit courses.
