The “Itaita Slope Jack” event is currently being held, on 1/18 (Sat.) and 1/19 (Sun.)! A rare female participant (pictured) proudly told me, “I’m dressed as a popular V-Tuber. The fluffy tail is so cute, right?!” Interestingly, there were many skilled male skiers in cosplay, often dressed as women, participating in the event. I was captivated not only by their elegant skiing but also by their impressive cosplay!

The morning began under overcast skies, but the clouds gradually cleared, revealing blue skies around 9:30 a.m. (pictured). Being a weekend, visitors showed up early, and both the west and east sides of the Central Parking Lot were already full by 9 a.m. The Kanenaru Slope (pictured) featured a moderately firm groomed surface with a light dusting of fresh snow that offered excellent powder conditions for smooth and enjoyable skiing.

At the Kids’ Park (pictured, open from 10 a.m., ¥1,000 with one free parent entry), a father from Shizuoka Prefecture (pictured) shared, “Tsugaike is spacious and has a variety of runs, from gentle to steep, making it enjoyable for both kids and adults. That’s why we often come here to ski.” (What a perfect comment!) Tomorrow, 1/19 (Sun.), is Kids Ski Day, where elementary school students can ride the lifts for free.

Let’s go back to the start of the morning. A staff member in charge of avalanche control for TSUGA POW DBD shared, “I always read your reports. Today, there seem to be more people heading to the backcountry than to DBD.” Both the Tsuga-no-mori Slope (pictured) and the Han-no-ki Slope offered perfectly packed groomed powder conditions, with fresh snow lightly dusting the base—a dream for skiers and snowboarders alike!
