The Ontake Ski Resort opened for the season on 12/20 (Fri.), and by 12/28 (Sat.), the No. 7 Quad lift started operating, enabling access to 80% or more of the resort’s total terrain. Located in a high-altitude inland region between 1,680m and 2,240m, the resort has been experiencing temperatures colder than usual and abundant snowfall, ensuring top-notch skiing conditions.
[Central Course]
The groomed Central Course (first photo), Mikasa Wing Course (pictured), Paradise Course, Panorama A Course, Family Course, and 4B Course all had perfectly soft powder snow bases! Even on the ungroomed Expert and Karamatsu Avenue courses, where previous tracks remained on the snow surface, the snow was of a dry and fluffy snow quality.

Starting today, a Banked Slalom Course (pictured) has been added to the upper section of the Paradise Course, and a kicker and spine have appeared in the middle section of the 4B Course. The Banked Slalom features a gentle slope, allowing skiers of all levels to enjoy it, whether they prefer to glide through with shallow turns or carve right up to the edge of the bank.
[Paradise Course]
This morning, clear skies and radiative cooling brought temperatures down to -9°C, but surprisingly, I didn’t feel that cold, likely due to the complete absence of wind. By the way, Ontake offers a “Regional Discount” service for residents of various surrounding areas on specified dates, allowing you to purchase a 1-day lift ticket for just ¥2,500, making it a great deal.
