The slopes at Ninja, with bowl-shaped terrain and high elevation, offer the perfect balance of openness and a the feeling of being enveloped by the mountain. On 1/19 (Sun.), pleasant blue skies gradually spread across the area, and Gomarugo (pictured), Blackbeat, Drago, and Shinko were groomed with moderately firm powder snow bases that provided an excellent skiing experience.

Starting at 10 a.m. today, the “Sports Snowball Fight Experience” (pictured, free participation) began in the base area. Sports Snowball Fight is a winter sport where teams of seven compete to either eliminate the opposing team by hitting them with snowballs or capturing the flag from the opponent’s area. During my reporting, families from Kanagawa Prefecture and elementary school students from Komoro City were competing.

Before the competition, participants first had the chance to experience making snowballs using special equipment (pictured). By the way, when the snow is like today’s powder snow, a little water is added because it doesn’t easily compact on its own. The completed snowballs were arranged on trays, as shown on the far right of the picture. After that, the participants were divided into red and blue teams, and the first 2-minute round of the match began.

In both sets this time, the red elementary school team won by capturing the flag (pictured, left)! After the match, participants experienced a victory throw (similar to a penalty shootout in soccer) and were given stickers and kunai (ninja weapons) as gifts before the event concluded. The next session will take place on 2/16 (Sun.) at 10 a.m.
