REPORT

From yesterday, 1/20 (Mon.), through to this morning, the base area experienced unseasonably warm weather during what is supposed to be the coldest period of winter. Long stretches of Route 148 and Olympic Road, which had been covered in ice, were finally dry again, making for smooth driving conditions this morning. Meanwhile, light snowfall overnight left the trees across the mid-to-upper sections of the ski area beautifully adorned in frost.

The morning started with crisp, chilly air due to radiative cooling, but the absence of wind and the warm sunlight made it feel pleasant. The area along the Kurobishi Quad (pictured), Skyline Course, and the southern route of Usagidaira all were in excellent groomed condition with well-packed powder snow! On the other hand, the areas along the Kurobishi 3 Pair (pictured, background) and Alpen Quad had hard packed irregular moguls topped with about 2 cm of fresh, light snow that added a touch of softness.

The groomed Riesen Slalom Course (pictured) featured firmly packed powder snow on the upper section, powder-like wet snow in the middle, and well-packed wet snow on the lower section. On another note, the Hakuba Nagano Toll Road will be free starting at midnight on the evening of 2/15 (Sat.), morning of 2/16 (Sun.), making access to Hakuba Village from the Nagano City even more convenient.

HAPPO PARKS (pictured) had a moderately firm groomed wet snow surface with a powdery feel. The park features were well-maintained, with crisp, sharp lips on each item. The groomed Kitaone Traverse Cat Track and Sakka Wave had well-packed wet snow, while the Shirakaba Slope featured hard packed wet snow conditions.
