How beautiful Tsugaike Mountain Resort is! With four consecutive days of clear skies and warm temperatures around JR Hakuba Station, stepping onto the summit revealed a breathtaking view of frost-covered trees (pictured). The well-packed groomed powder snow of the Tsuga-no-Mori Slope (pictured) was topped with 2 to 3 cm of light, fresh snow, and each carving turn sent up a delicate plumed of powder.

The Gotemba Course (pictured) offered the same conditions, with a well-packed powder surface blanketed with 2 to 3 cm of fresh snow. Today, the Gotemba Course felt like a hidden gem—hardly a soul ventured here no matter how long I waited. Gliding freely through frost-laden tunnels of trees, I turned back after a satisfying run, grinning at the sight of my tracks etched perfectly in the snow.

The groomed Han-no-ki Slope featured a firm powder snow base from the start through the middle sections, while the lower section (pictured) offered moderately packed powder. Two visitors from Tokyo (pictured) shared, “We came out for the day. The upper part of the Han-no-ki Slope was a bit too firm for beginners like us, but this lower section is slightly softer and much easier to ski.”

I also spoke with a skier from Hokkaido (pictured), who told me, “I came to practice for a ski instructor certification exam in February. If I pass, I plan to move to Hakuba.” Both the Champion Slope (pictured) and Oya-no-hara Slope had moderately packed groomed powder snow, providing excellent conditions for training!
