Japan’s most generous ski resort event, the Iwatake Thanks Fair, will be held on 1/25 (Sat.) in front of the White Plaza (pictured)! This year’s festivities include free offerings of hearty pork miso soup, local sake, beer, juice, and snacks, as well as an exciting drawing with approximately 1,000 luxurious prizes up for grabs. Please note that today, 1/21 (Tue.), the Kamo 1 Lift will be out of service all day for maintenance inspections.

With calm, sunny skies, the groomed South Slope (pictured) offered pleasantly compacted, slightly moist snow with a powdery feel that made for smooth and enjoyable turns. The IWATAKE SNOW PARK, located on the skier’s left side on the bottom half of the run, was also in excellent condition. Meanwhile, Hakuba Village announced yesterday that the distant Kaerazu-sawa and Shakushi-sawa snowfields have been confirmed as glaciers.

The Sunny Valley Course (pictured) had moderately firm, powder-like groomed wet snow at the beginning, and firmer groomed wet snow from the middle to the end (pictured). In the early morning, many skiers quickly descended from the South Slope to Sunny Valley and then took the gondola back up. Despite it being a weekday, it was already getting busy early, especially with international visitors.

The East Slope and the less crowded Sawa Course (pictured) also had moderately firm groomed wet snow with the feel of powder. In the ungroomed areas along the sides, as well as in the non-groomed zones like Hikage and Sonezawa, there was a light dusting of fresh snow on top of the well-packed base.
