Shiga REPORT

2025.01.21170 cm / Sunny

I was approached by a group of four from Shizuoka Prefecture, who said, “You’re using an amazing camera! Are you working today? … Wait, aren’t you the Snownavi reporter?” Two members of the group (pictured) shared, “We’re skiing and staying here for two nights. We love Shiga because of the excellent snow quality and the variety of slopes.” After receiving compliments on my camera, I couldn’t hide my proud smile!

It was as warm as March in Nagano City, but in Shiga Kogen, the ice and frost covered trees were still a constant sight! On the well-packed groomed powder snow of the Diamond Slope (pictured), about 3cm of light, fresh snow had accumulated overnight. I enjoyed making wide turns on the bright and expansive east-facing run.

Later, I crossed the road to the nearby Ichinose Family area. There the trees bordering the Tengu Slope (pictured) were wrapped in stunning rime ice, and I overheard exclamations such as, “Wow, this is so beautiful!” I enjoyed taking in the scenery and slowly gliding down the gentle slope’s firm groomed powder surface that had a light 2 cm layer of fresh snow. (Look carefully and you can see the moon in the sky.)

After riding the Ichinose Quad (1,074m) back up, I entered the main Front Slope (pictured), where yet another breathtaking view unfolded before me. Many of the people around me were taking photos of the beautiful scene before heading down. This slope also had well-packed groomed powder with 3cm of light, fresh snow on top, offering a smooth and enjoyable ride.
