Tsugaike REPORT

2025.01.22272 cm / Partly Cloudy

Early this morning, I headed to Maeyama to capture the Tsugaike Mountain Resort and the Northern Alps bathed in the red glow of the sunrise. Around 7 a.m., the cotton-like clouds draped over the ridgeline began to take on a reddish hue, and at that time, radiative cooling made the air feel exceptionally cold, though as the sun started shining, it quickly became more comfortable.

With this being the fifth consecutive sunny day, even the upper areas of the resort are no longer covered in powder snow. The groomed areas of the Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) featured firm wet snow. The area alongside the Han-no-ki High-Speed Pair had some sections of harder patches mixed with artificial snow, and small clumps of snow could be seen scattered across the surface on the latter half of the slope.

That said, the slopes were still very easy to ski on. Early in the morning, the advanced skiers quickly descending the Han-no-ki Slope (pictured) and looping back up via the Han-no-ki No. 3 Quad or gondola stood out. Both the Maruyama and Shirakaba slopes were groomed with similarly firm wet snow bases, while the groomed surface of the Oya-no-hara Slope was slightly softer.

Tsugaike is also stepping up its culinary game this season with six new dining additions: SNOWMEN (located at the summit), Pho Thin Tokyo Tsugaike and Ramen Yu (at Snow Plaza), as well as Beer & Chips, Lulu’s Raclette, and OMU CHEF OSAKA ( in Tsugaike Yokocho). All told, with other popular spots like Burger King, Eden (pictured, center), and Konayuki Café, the resort now boasts a total of 19 eateries!
