Following the winter weather system that lasted from 1/15 (Wed.) to 1/17 (Fri.), we’ve now enjoyed five consecutive days of clear skies, starting on 1/18 (Sat.). On my way home yesterday, the snow-covered landscape during the evening magic hour (5:05 p.m., pictured) was so breathtaking that I decided to come back and enjoy the pre-sunrise magic hour from the same spot this morning. That brings up another point, Snownavi is a great company in every sense—early mornings, yes, but we get to head home before 5 p.m.!

With the clear skies today, Mt. Myoko and Mt. Hiuchi stood out sharply in the distance. Thanks to overnight radiative cooling, the groomed Paradise Slope (pictured) featured tightly packed moist snow. I enjoyed pointing my skis straight down Paradise Downhill, which had similar conditions, and cruising all the way to the Castor Plaza.

On Lake View, I was greeted with a cheerful “We always follow your updates!” from a couple visiting from Shiga Prefecture (pictured). They shared, “We’re staying at Hotel Hakuba. We debated between the breathtaking views of Iwatake and the perfectly groomed slopes of Sanosaka, but we figured Snownavi might be here reporting today, so we chose Sanosaka. Looks like we were right!”

On the well-packed, groomed wet snow surface of Lake View allowed for smooth gliding, even on the gentle slope. The Carving Slope (pictured) offered a similar experience to Paradise, with well-packed, powder-like, groomed wet snow. By the way, a new café is now open on the first floor of Castor Plaza as of 1/13 (Mon., holiday).
