Akakura Kanko REPORT

2025.01.22290 cm / Mostly Sunny

The park at Akakura Kanko features beautifully sculpted kickers with crisp, well defined lips. Once again this season, the Main Park (pictured) is open between the Hotel B Course and Joshi Kokutai Course. Currently, all the park elements are kickers, including a 10m, 12m, 6m, 7m, and 8m kicker in that order, from top to bottom.

The groomed base within the Main Park was a mix of fine granular and moist snow, pressed together into a moderately firm surface, allowing for smooth acceleration on the approach and higher jumps. Additionally, on the skier’s right side near the start of the Hotel Main Slope, you’ll find the Second Park, which features a 4m kicker, two 5m kickers, and a flat box.

At the top of the ski resort, the Hotel C Course offered a moderately firm, groomed wet snow surface with a powdery feel. Meanwhile, the groomed Hotel B Course, Joshi Kokutai Course, Hotel Main Slope, and Hotel Beginner Course featured moderately packed surfaces composed of a mix of granular and wet snow. By the way, the Akakura Kanko Hotel (pictured) has two dining options where day visitors can enjoy lunch: Aqua Dining and Café Terrace.

Let’s rewind to the start of the day, when the colors of the sunrise still lingered on the Hotel Beginner Course before the lifts began operating. There I met a skier from Aichi Prefecture (pictured, left) who shared, “I always read your reports! Today, I’m meeting up with my skiing friend from Kanagawa Prefecture (pictured, right), and after warming up on the slopes, we’re heading out for some backcountry skiing to the summit of Maeyama (pictured, top center).” In related news, the post box for submitting mountaineering and backcountry plans is located at the base station of the Myoko Kogen Sky Cable.
