The Hinode Slope (pictured) offers night skiing on Fridays and Saturdays through 2/28 (Fri.), as well as on 2/23 (Sun.) and every Saturday from 3/1 (Sat.) to 3/22 (Sat.), starting at 6 p.m. Tickets are priced at JPY2,000 for adults and JPY1,500 for elementary school students and younger children. Additionally, Fridays through 2/28 (Fri.) are designated as Night Service Days, with tickets priced at just JPY1,000 for both adults and children.

On 1/23 (Thu.), the weather was calm with sunny, but hazy skies. The Hinode and Tengu Slopes (pictured) featured well-packed, groomed wet snow. By the way, the Tengu, Ura Taro Schi Heil, and Ura Taro Family slopes are equipped with the AI-powered SAVREQ system, which automatically tracks and films skiers. Filming is free, and if you like the footage, you can download the video to your smartphone for just JPY500.

Being a weekday in January, the morning started off quiet, but by around 9:30 a.m., it became lively with students attending ski school. The Taro Slope featured well-packed, groomed wet snow on the upper section and firmer groomed wet snow lower down. Conditions were perfect for enjoying smooth, continuous turns from top to bottom.

“I check your site occasionally,” said a snowboarder from nearby Ueda City (pictured). He added, “I have a season pass for Sugadaira and, since I work night shifts, I spend about two hours here in the morning. I do both skiing and snowboarding, but lately, I’ve been focusing on practicing snowboard ground tricks.”
