Happo-one REPORT

2025.01.25350 cm / Partly Sunny

The morning started with clear skies, and the Northern Alps were easily visible from the resort’s base. However, clouds began to roll in from the east, and by the time the resort opened, both the Usagidaira and Kurobishi Slopes (pictured) were seeing dry snowflakes drifting down. Additionally, a light fog intermittently rolled in and out over both slopes.

The groomed slope along the Kurobishi Quad had a moderately firm “powdery” wet snow surface. Members of the Kansai ski group “Snopara” (pictured) shared, “We always read your reports! We wanted to get a photo with the blue sky in the background, but as soon as we called out to you, the fog rolled in. The snow conditions are great, though, and the slopes are really easy to ski on.”

By the way, starting tonight, there will be 5 consecutive weeks of fireworks from the Nakiyama area every Saturday. (The one exception is that the 5th week’s display will take place Friday, 2/21, to coincide with the Fire Festival.) Furthermore, the FWQ*4 will be held at the top of the resort between 1/27 (Mon.) to 1/30 (Thu.), and from 2/27 (Thu.) to 2/28 (Fri.), the Riesen Slalom Competition will be held. Finally, SNOWMACHINE Hakuba is set for 3/5 (Wed.) to 3/8 (Sat.). On the well-groomed wet snow of the Riesen Slope, advanced skiers were particularly noticeable as they gained speed and flew down the course.

The southern route at Usagidaira, the Skyline Course (pictured), and the Kitaone Traverse Cat Track all featured well-packed, groomed wet snow bases. The Sakka Slope had a moderately firm wet snow surface, while Shirakaba had hard packed groomed wet snow. On the non-groomed sections along the Alpen Quad and Kurobishi 3 Pair, around 1 to 2 cm of light new snow had settled over the firm, undulating base and moguls.
