Hakuba Norikura REPORT

2025.01.24300 cm / Mostly Cloudy

I started reporting at 10:00 a.m. in order to capture the scene on the Hakunori Cross Course located along the No. 5 High-Speed Pair (1,130m). With a rare stretch of sunny January days lasting a week, it was another warm morning, with the temperature hovering around 0°C. The groomed Rabbit Course (pictured) featured slightly softened, wet snow surface conditions.

The Wakaguri Central Slope, which connects to the Rabbit Course, also had slightly softened, wet snow on its groomed surface. Training was underway for the Osaka Ski Technical Championship, set for 1/25 (Sat.) and 1/26 (Sun.), on the latter half of the Highway Course (pictured, background). On the fast-running Hakunori Cross Course (pictured), skiers and snowboarders could be seen hitting the banks and jumping off the large waves.

I was admiring the skills of a monoski enthusiast when I realized it was none other than Mr. Tsukiji from Island Joy (pictured, left). From the lift, he called out, “I’m here for some fun today! I’m going to take another run on the Cross Course.” Despite it being a weekday in January, the Wakaguri area was bustling with activity.

Meanwhile, the Satomi area was nearly empty since the No. 9 Pair is currently out of operation. With its ultra-wide slopes, meticulous grooming, and the convenience of a restaurant right at the base, it seemed like the perfect spot for some quiet practice. I’m already plotting to come here during my time off! The slopes offered a well-packed and easy-to-ride surface of slightly wet groomed snow.

*The Chanmero Freeride & Suribachi OPEN event scheduled for 1/26 (Sun.) has been changed from a competition to a Jam Session format due to a crack that developed in the early section of the Expert Course, where the competition was set to take place.
*The Alps No. 9 Pair lift will be out of service for the foreseeable future due to mechanical issues.
