I spoke to the first couple to arrive today, who shared, “We’re from Kyushu, but we’re staying here and skiing every day at our favorite Ikenotaira Onsen. Yesterday, the snow was pretty hard. This morning, first we’re going to take the Ikenotaira Quad (1,622m) to the top of the mountain.” When I reached the top of the resort, I was greeted by beautiful hoarfrost-covered trees (pictured).

The Gouache Tiner Course (first photo) and the Quad Course (pictured) featured well-packed wet snow that had been groomed to perfection. FYI, the area to the left of the Ikenotaira Quad Lift is a vast tree run course. The spacing between the trees looked wide and inviting, so I thought I’d like to give it a try when more fresh snow has fallen.

At 7:30 a.m., light, moist snow was falling in the parking lot, but by around 8:30 a.m., it had stopped, and there were even moments of sunshine. The ski school had a lot of students, but the ultra-wide Kayaba Slope (pictured) didn’t feel congested, neither did the other runs. On the Kayaba Slope (pictured), the surface of the well-packed wet snow began to soften, making for a more relaxed ride.

Staying to the left of the Shirakaba Capsule Pair Lift (pictured), you’ll find the Alpen Blick Snow Park, which features 23 different items. The moderately packed wet snow surfaces on the Yamabato Forest Course and Karamatsu Course had also started to soften. By the way, a Snowball Fight event will be held on 2/22 (Sat.), and a Winter Costume Festival will take place the following day, on 2/23 (Sun.)!
